Major in Security and Strategic Intelligence

Use analytics to effectively assess, mitigate and manage current and future threats to security. You’ll also learn to effectively integrate computer information systems into your work and improve communication between analysts and decision makers.

This program can be completed fully online without coming to the St. Louis campus.

Offered through our School for Professional Studies, SLU’s bachelor's degree in security and strategic intelligence is an accelerated, 120-credit hour program that allows students to specialize in one of three tracks:

Business Continuity

Study issues related to preparation, protection, response, recovery and mitigation of issues within for-profit, nonprofit and government organizations. You’ll gain the skills necessary to develop comprehensive business continuity processes for their organizations that focus on preparation, protection, response, recovery and mitigation. Strategic Intelligence

Examine issues related to the collection and use of intelligence with an emphasis on both national and corporate security. You’ll develop an in-depth understanding of policy and asset issues that can affect intelligence effectiveness and how various threats to security can be mitigated through the effective use of intelligence. Global Corporate Security

Learn more about issues related to security within the for-profit sector and gain an understanding of the issues and financial considerations involved in securing human, tangible and data assets. Minor in Security and Strategic Intelligence

Students who are already pursuing a degree within SLU’s School for Professional Studies may combine their major with this 18-credit hour program for a minor in security and strategic intelligence.

Security and Strategic Intelligence Certificate

If you've already obtained a bachelor's degree or higher, or if you meet the prerequisites, SLU offers a stand-alone certificate in security and strategic intelligence that can be pursued entirely online. Gainful Employment Disclosure

Careers

Careers for graduates with a business continuity degree in security and strategic intelligence include business continuity planners, business intelligence analysts, business operations specialists and emergency/risk managers.

Careers for graduates with a strategic intelligence degree in security and strategic intelligence include business intelligence analysts, private detectives and investigators, computer and information systems managers and criminal investigators.

Careers for graduates with a global corporate security degree in security and strategic intelligence include security and asset managers, security management specialists, transportation security screeners, retail loss prevention specialists, loss prevention managers, and criminal investigators and special agents.

Faculty

Faculty in the SSI program include leading experts from government, military, law and the private sector. Students learn from real-world practitioners and are able to apply their coursework directly to the challenges in the organizations they serve.

Applicant Criteria

Students interested in studying security and strategic intelligence at SLU must apply directly to the School for Professional Studies. Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling basis. Students are encouraged to apply for admission at least one month before the beginning of the term in which they wish to enroll.

To be eligible for admission, School for Professional Studies students must be at least 22 years old (exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis). Students must have a high school diploma or a GED composite score of at least 2250, and have at least three years of work experience or the equivalent. Students must also successfully complete an admission meeting with a SPS admissions counselor.


Additional Certification

Earn Credit through SLU's Workforce Center

Students in SLU’s security and strategic intelligence program may also take applicable IT certification courses through the Workforce Center at SLU. You'll receive dual credit in your degree program, allowing  you to customize your studies and graduate with a degree, as well as industry certifications.
